India
To Mumbai and Goa
In the Indian Ocean, Carrier Strike Group 2025 put its training and equipment to the test alongside Indian Armed Forces. Exercise Konkan, named for India’s vast western coastline, has regularly brought the two Commonwealth navies together to boost collaboration, coordination, and capabilities. This year, the UK and India embarked on a two-week long exercise, marked by intensive training and delightful cultural exchange.
High up in the skies, mock dogfights showed off the impressive stealth and speed of our fastest jets. As several Indian Air Force Su30 ‘Flankers’ and Jaguars conducted simulated strikes against HMS Prince of Wales and her escorts, the Royal Navy’s F-35Bs provided the necessary shields to push back on the offensive.
The Indian Navy also demonstrated their first-ever indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. For Royal Navy crew, the exercise was a chance to work side-by-side with Indian Armed Forces. While the Group’s flagship carrier sailed into Goa to continue operations, HMS Richmond visited Mumbai for some much-anticipated sightseeing.
Food and travel influencer, Devashree Sanghvi, gave crew a guided tour of Mumbai’s best bites and shopping delights. While elsewhere, the Royal Navy football team went head-to-head with the Indian Navy in a fantastic friendly match. To round out the Mumbai adventure, HMS Richmond and British High Commissioner to India, Ms. Lindy Cameron, played host to a night-time reception in celebration of UK-India ties.
